Sure that person could probably find a lot of that information for free if they searched the net long enough, but they don’t have days to search, they want to get to sleep now.  With an information product, they can instantly download and be reading that product all in less than 5 minutes.

C2C: Consumer-to-consumer, or C2C e commerce is popular today. If you’ve ever purchased something online from another person, rather than a business, either through an ad posting on a electronic bulletin board or an online auction, you’ve participated in consumer-to-consumer e commerce.

By far, the most popular from of consumer-to-consumer e commerce is in the form of online auctions, through the mammoth eBay auction site, where anyone can put goods online for sale to the highest bidder.

P2P: P2P or peer-to-peer e commerce started with Napster, where users shared files for free. Now there are several similar websites and file-sharing programs and systems online.

B2C: We can’t explain how e commerce works without mentioning the huge amount of e commerce that takes places from business-to-consumer.

When anyone purchases anything, whether it’s a download of something electronic or any item that must be shipped to the buyer, at an online store or website, that’s e commerce.

So to explain how e commerce works, it’s necessary to keep these things in mind.

E commerce involves one or more of the following:

• the exchange of information online
• the exchange of money online
• the exchange of goods or services online

To explain how e commerce works in your favor, the concepts are just as simple. If you want to purchase a book, for instance, you can find several online bookstores and compare the prices of that book to find the lowest one.

You can check the cost of shipping the book, and their shipping times, and determine which store can get it to you the quickest, for the lowest price.

E commerce is all around us, it has been for years, even long before the Internet.  Staring in the 60s, businesses began sharing files and information with each other electronically, the very first form of e commerce.

There’s no need to stand in line, fight crowds or pay for gas to purchase almost anything you can imagine these days.

Websites cater to each shopper, often with customized recommendations of products based on the items the shopper browses, or previous purchases.

It’s convenient and secure, and much less hassle than driving from store to store. No introduction to e commerce would be complete without listing the drawbacks.

Some people are unsure about the idea of purchasing online, either because they’re simply unfamiliar with how to do it, or they don’t trust that their credit card information is truly safe.

Or maybe you link to a pet shop that sells bird supplies and you get a small commission on each person that clicks through or registers on their website.

Whatever type of affiliate marketing you have in place, as long as you have visitors to your site looking for information, you can generate affiliate marketing leads by using your own mailing list. It’s easy to get started.

There are many different software programs available online to help you manage a mailing list, from expensive programs with all the bells and whistles to free online programs.

Choose one that fits your budget and your anticipated demand.  You won’t need to spend  a lot of money when you’re first starting out and if the operation expands dramatically you can always transfer your list to a higher-end provider later.

If you already have a website set up for any kind of e commerce, you can use that as an example to show other business owners. In your local community there are several small businesses who might not yet have an Internet presence.

You can contact these business owners and discuss with them their need to put their presence online, even if just to offer information to those who might be searching on the products they have for sale, even if they don’t plan on selling any items through their website.

Small local businesses have their regular stable of customers, but they need to constantly bring new customers in as well.

Even if the business owner doesn’t want to put items for sale online and deal with that aspect of the business, a website that offers information to Internet searchers can increase their business.

With some study of Internet marketing and search engine-operation including how keywords figure into search results and search engine rankings, you can offer the business owner the relevant information for a fee.

You can charge for a consultation in which you lay out a plan for the business owner to create a presence online to draw in more customers.

If you’re thinking that teaching e commerce is something you’re not qualified to do, consider that there are dozens, maybe hundreds, of e commerce packages already available online.

For one price, a business owner can purchase a website hosting plan, an advertising package, information about how to promote and rank high in the search engines, and create the website, usually with the help of software that does all the technical work for you.  You don’t even have to understand most of what the package offers, in order to profit from it.

If you understand e commerce, and can convey a little information to the business owner about how a good website can increase his business by teaching him e commerce and the advantages it has over regular commerce, you can profit from the packages that other people have already created through affiliate marketing.

One of the ways the people and companies who create these all-in-one packages sell so many of them is through affiliate marketing.

This is a simple concept—they create the package, then they allow other people to promote the package for them.

When a package is sold thanks to the effort of someone else (tracked by the link the purchaser used to get to the package) the seller, known as the affiliate marketer, is paid a percentage of that sale.

What about sites you link to?  Presumably there are websites in your industry you refer your customers and website visitors to, websites that offer great products or services and are not in direct competition with you.  These are ideal websites to approach for potential advertising space.

Look for up and coming websites.  Most new businesses are hungry for traffic.  While they may not be able to pay high advertising rates, they may be a great place to start.

Once you can show larger businesses that advertising on your site will produce a substantial return on investment, you can demand higher advertising rates.

Lastly, take a look at the people who contact you.  Many webmaster receive frequent communications from customers, visitors, and potential partners.  Analyze each email to see if they are a potential advertiser too.

They already know your business and have an interest in your products or services which makes them a likely candidate.

Finding the right advertisers for your business is well worth a little time and effort on your part.  When you find advertisers who your customers and visitors are interested in you win because you offer a better customer experience and you reap advertising profits.
